A sleeve head roll is a support piece positioned along the upper armhole seam of a jacket. It can help the sleeve crown sit neatly and soften the transition from shoulder to sleeve. It is different from a shoulder pad: the pad shapes the shoulder line, while the roll affects volume at the top of the sleeve.
Pattern and assembly
The length and thickness of the roll should match the ease built into the sleeve crown. Incorrect placement or too much volume can create a visible ridge along the seam. Inspect a complete sample with the sleeve attached, including when the wearer moves.
