What Is a Sleeve Head Strip in Women’s Jackets?

Support at the sleeve crown
A sleeve head strip is a narrow support component placed near the top of the sleeve seam in some women’s jackets. It can add controlled fullness and make the transition from shoulder to sleeve appear smoother. It may be used with a shoulder pad, but the two pieces perform different functions and not every garment needs both.
Check balance
Consider strip width and position together with sleeve head ease and shell fabric weight. Too much filling in a narrow sleeve can mark the seam. During fitting, inspect the transition from the front, side and back.
Specify the sample
Clarify material, thickness, piece length and attachment method when requesting a sample. Share the garment type and pattern dimensions; make a pilot piece using the intended sewing method before production.
Can it replace a shoulder pad?
A sleeve head strip may shape the sleeve crown, but it does not automatically take over the role of a pad designed for the entire shoulder line. Using both components under a soft or thin fabric may add unwanted bulk. Decide during a pattern fitting by looking at sleeve hang and symmetry between both shoulders.
